The global Map of Memory showcases historical, factual, and personal accounts of what we have lost from the natural world. Visitors are asked to add their own stories of ‘What Is Missing’ from their surroundings, creating a collective digital memorial that will continue to bear witness to the biodiversity, species and habitats we are losing.

It also presents in depth histories of major cities and waterways called timelines. Following these timelines, one sees how environmental degradation can and is being reversed- revealing how better legislation and conservation methods have restored both species and habitats.

The map of the present, Conservation in Action, highlights the work of over 40 participating environmental institutions and organizations, and teaches a history of the environmental conservation movement, and shows people what they can do in their own lives to help protect species and habitats.

We are in the process of updating our website www.whatismissing.org to link the map of the past, Map of Memory with the map of the present, Conservation in Action - to link stories that note species and habitat degradation with groups that are actively engaged to help in these areas.

The site will culminate with Greenprint for the Future, which will reimagine how we could live sustainably with the planet.
